Donald J. Trump State Park could soon undergo a name change if one Democratic lawmaker has his way.
In 2006, Trump reportedly donated 436 acres of land in Westchester County, N.Y., which he'd unsuccessfully planned to develop into a golf course, to the state for public use. The land was turned into a state park and named after the billionaire.
Now, Democratic State Sen. Daniel Squadron is seeking to rename the lot in a symbolic stand against Trump's "discriminatory proposals" and "increasingly hostile" rhetoric.
"I request that you and State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Rose Harvey act to quickly remove 'Donald J. Trump' from any signage or public State Parks material associated with the park," Squadron wrote Monday in a letter to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
