Hoyer Denies Report of September Adjournment

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., denied a report in the Politico newspaper that the House could adjourn as early as this week. "I don't know where that report came from," Hoyer said.

Key House aides still say officially that the House is targeted to leave town October 8, though it may adjourn as early as October 1.

The House is waiting on the Senate to pass what is known as a continuing resolution, which is a spending bill that keeps the government running at current rates for the next fiscal year. That bill needs to be completed soon, as the current budget expires at the end of September.

"My view is we're going to be in session next week," Hoyer said. He would not speculate on a legislative calendar beyond next week.
