The House and Senate have their first day back together since the July 4th recess and plan to get to work on legislation they failed to pass before the break. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has announced his intention to put the Dodd-Frank financial regulatory overhaul bill on the Senate floor this week. If it passes, it heads to President Obama’s desk for his signature.
At 11:00 a.m. ET, the Senate Democratic leadership team, led by Sen. Reid, heads to the White House for a meeting with the president. That conversation is closed press, but we will be staking out members to try to find out the Democratic agenda for the final meaningful work period before members enter full campaign mode.
We expect both parties in the Senate to outline their plans for the work period at this week’s policy luncheon stakeouts at approximately 2:00 p.m. ET.
The House Education and Labor Committee meets at 3:00 p.m. ET to discuss the Miner Safety and Health Act of 2010. The legislation was proposed after the disaster at the Upper Big Branch coal mine in April that killed 29 workers.
