Washington State coach Mike Leach has a reputation for being an interesting character, even when it comes to his weapon of choice for self-defense.

According to the Seattle Times Leach is a gun owner, but guns aren’t his preferred weapon for self-defense. When it comes to Leach’s life and liberty, he prefers to protect with a Viking battle axe, saying:

To be clear, Leach is not an anti-gun advocate. He said he grew up shooting guns, but when it comes to self-defense they just aren’t as spectacular as the axe.

Leach also blamed a failure of education for gun violence saying, “I’ve had players and stuff, they see some video on TV and they go to Walmart and buy a gun. Well they don’t know how to load it, they shoot it sideways. That’s absurd. That’s insane. So because of this failure to teach and educate, there’s accidental shootings.” (RELATED: Oregon Shooting Survivor Does Not Support Gun Control [VIDEO])
