Ben Carson has surpassed Hillary Clinton as the top fundraiser in Iowa as he steps into the front of the GOP field in the early caucus state.
More than 900 Iowans contributed $153,000 to Carson's campaign through Sept. 20, according to a Des Moines Register analysis. This places Carson ahead of Clinton, who led the state in fundraising through June, but through the end of September had raised only $111,600 from 538 Iowans.
Carson surpassed fellow "outsider candidate" Donald Trump in Iowa, according to a Des Moines Register poll released five days ago. Carson jumped 10 percentage points since the last polling in August, beating Trump by 9 points 28-19. Carson and Trump have won over voters by exposing anti-establishment views and by appearing as political outsiders.
Since this poll was released, Trump has not taken kindly to the information, and at a campaign rally in Iowa Tuesday night he berated his supporters for the drop in support, asking "what the hell are you doing to me?"
