Turning Point USA releases tribute video honoring Charlie Kirk’s life and legacy

Turning Point USA has released a powerful tribute video to its founder, Charlie Kirk, honoring his life and legacy following his tragic death on Wednesday.

The video, titled “A Life of Faith, A Legacy That Endures: Remembering Charlie Kirk,” highlights some of his most influential moments and quotes throughout his career in the public sphere.

“This is not a flash-in-the-pan movement. We’re going to become an institution, to give them the power and confidence and let their voice be heard,” a young Kirk is seen saying at a time when Turning Point USA was active in 15 locations. Today, the group says it has a presence on about 3,500 college and high school campuses across all 50 states.

FOX NEWS PERSONALITIES OFFER EMOTIONAL TRIBUTES TO CHARLIE KIRK: 'HE LOVED AMERICA SO MUCH'

Kirk often spoke openly about the role his Christian faith played in shaping his work and message, and the video leans heavily on that theme.

“We as Christians are called to go into the public arena to correct error with truth, so I go to college campuses and there are a lot of error,” Kirk says in the video.

“We are all sinners, we all live in error. I’m far more interested in what God wants of me than what I want from God.”

The video also shows emotional moments between Kirk and his wife, Erika, as she expresses her love and pride in him, as well as a clip of his daughter running into his arms after an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

It also includes President Donald Trump praising Kirk’s accomplishments.

“The media said that Turning Point could never run a ground game, they weren’t experienced,” Trump says at a Turning Point event. “They didn’t know Charlie right.”

The tribute ends with Kirk reflecting on how he wanted to be remembered. “I want to be remembered for courage for my faith. That would be the most important thing,” he says.

On the heels of the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, a dozen House Republicans signed a letter calling on House Speaker Mike Johnson to direct that a statue of the late political figure be placed in the U.S. Capitol.

A letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., which Rep. It will stand as a reminder that political disagreement must never be answered with violence, and that the fight for truth must carry on."

In her post, Luna said she owes her "entire political career to Charlie Kirk," noting, "I would quite literally not be in office today if it weren’t for him. Even when my own party was working against me, Charlie endorsed me and campaigned to help me win election."

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said he is aware of reports that some U.S. military personnel and Department of War civilians may have celebrated or mocked Charlie Kirk’s assassination online.

Sanders calls political violence 'political cowardice' after Kirk killing

Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt. issued a statement denouncing the recent surge in political violence, urging Americans to defend free speech and democratic debate instead of turning to intimidation.

Sanders’ comments come following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, one of many violent attacks he says is “a disturbing rise in political violence.”

In the message, he said that while Kirk was someone he disagreed with on many issues, Kirk “was clearly a very smart and effective communicator,” and someone who was not afraid to get out into the world and engage the public.

Sanders framed the moment as a test of civic values.

“A free and democratic society… depends upon the basic premise that people can speak out, organize and take part in public life without fear,” he said. “That’s called freedom and democracy. You have a point of view—that’s great. I have a point of view that is different—that’s great. Let’s argue it out… and we hold free elections… in which the people decide what they want.”

The Vermont senator warned that this repeated violence erodes the public square. “Freedom and democracy are not about political violence… Political violence, in fact, is political cowardice. It means that you cannot convince people of the correctness of your ideas, and you have to impose them through force.”

He added, “Every American… must condemn all forms of political violence and all forms of intimidation. We must welcome and respect dissenting points of view.”

Sanders went on to urge a national response. “If we honestly believe in democracy… all of us must be loud and clear: political violence, regardless of ideology, is not the answer and must be condemned.”

'Root out the rot’: Blackburn demands firing of Secret Service agent over Kirk post

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., called for the immediate termination of a Secret Service agent in a post on X, saying the employee “attempted to justify a political assassination” and urging leadership to “immediately terminate his employment.”

“As our nation mourns the devastating loss of Charlie Kirk… I am calling for this agent’s immediate termination. It’s time to root out the rot in the Secret Service,” she wrote on X.

In a letter to Director Sean M. Curran, Blackburn quoted the Facebook post that sparked her outrage: “if you are Mourning [sic] this guy… [sic] delete me. He spewed hate and racism on his show,” and “you can’t circumvent karma, [sic] she doesnt [sic] leave.”

Blackburn added that all protectees — including President Donald Trump — “deserve nothing less,” and reminded leadership of the “importance of accountability.”

Utah Gov says 7,000 tips in Charlie Kirk case, most since Boston Marathon bombing

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said officials have received over 7,00 tips and leads in connection to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which is more than the FBI received since the Boston Marathon Bombing.

“We, the public, has answered our call for action. So far, we've received more than 7000 leads and tips. I would just note that the FBI hasn't received this many digital media tips from the public since the Boston Marathon bombing,” Cox said during a press conference on Thursday. “This case also highlights the dedication of our law enforcement community.

“We have 20 federal, state, and local law enforcement partners that are working shoulder to shoulder to find the person who committed this horrific crime,” he continued. “With their support, we've completed, nearly 200 interviews as, as you're aware, as has already been reported, the FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for the murder of Charlie Kirk.”

Cox also spoke about possible penalties once the person of interest has been captured.

“More than anything, we are going to catch this person,” he said. “Last thing I will just say is we've been working with our attorneys, getting everything that we need affidavits ready. So that we can pursue the death penalty in this case. And that will happen here in the state of Utah.”

Inside the mind of a shooter: breaking down the planning behind high-level assassination attempts

The assassin behind Charlie Kirk's murder is still on the lam, and is likely an individual who lacks social skills, isolates himself and has only a loose plan for next steps, retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent and profiler James Clemente told Fox News Digital.

"In this case, it's likely that there has been for some time, a building frustration, and anger, and rage and an inability to feel that is addressed. And so they wanted to make a big — a very big — public statement. [The suspect] probably has a very poor self image, and wanted to do something big to feel better about themselves. And they probably, again, don't have the skills to address these issues in a calm, rational, interpersonal way. And that's why they lashed out in this very violent and extreme manner," Clemente, who is also the co-host and creator of the show "Real Crime Profile," told Fox News Digital in a phone interview on Thursday.

Appearing on Fox News’ The Story, Bruesewitz reflected on the loss of his longtime friend.

Bruesewitz added that Kirk, while humble, was “definitely going to be the president of the United States one day.” He described him as “an incredible man” and “the nicest guy” he had ever met.

“He would never hurt anyone. It breaks my heart that it was him who got hurt,” Bruesewitz said. “He only wanted to have conversations with people. He only wanted to debate people. He didn’t use violence. He didn’t use violent rhetoric. He just spoke the truth.”

Before signing off, Bruesewitz reiterated his pledge.

“I'm going to be giving a $25,000 reward on top of the $100,000 award that's being offered by the FBI,” he said. “We need to get this killer. He's a sick guy who's going to spend the rest of his life in Hell while Charlie's going to spend his rest of life in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Activist Robby Starbuck  is also choosing to add money to the FBI reward.

“I will follow @alexbruesewitz’s lead and add $25,000 to the FBI reward for information leading to the arrest of Charlie’s killer” he said on X. “That makes the FBI award $150,000 now. I hope others will do the same. The reward should be higher. This monster must receive the death penalty.”

Chip Roy demands new committee to probe 'radical left' in wake of Charlie Kirk assassination

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is calling on House leaders to establish a new temporary committee to investigate "numerous attacks on our way of life, the destruction of the rule of law and the murder of innocent Americans, prominent and unknown alike."

In a letter sent to House GOP leaders on Thursday, a day after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Roy is accusing left-wing groups of fomenting the current volatile political environment.

"I respectfully request that the House of Representatives form a select committee on ‘The money, influence, and power behind the radical left’s assault on America and the rule of law,’" Roy wrote. "The patterns are undeniable: we are witnessing a sustained breakdown of law and order, fueled not by chance, but by anti-American ideology."

Roy pointed to the assassination attempts against President Donald Trump in 2024, as well as the 2017 congressional baseball team practice shooting, but added, "It goes well beyond politicians and to the people themselves."

"We have seen targets placed on the Family Research Council and Charlie Kirk by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) only to witness shootings toward each, including the tragic assassination of Charlie just this week after being placed on the SPLC’s notorious ‘Hate Map’ three months ago," he wrote.

"We have seen dangerous networks like Antifa organize, fund and deploy sophisticated terror campaigns attacking law enforcement and destroying American cities. We have seen George Soros, the Wren Collective and other radical organizations funding and putting in place district attorneys and judges to then coordinate releasing criminals to the streets."

California GOP lawmakers praise Charlie Kirk for work in leading conservative youth movement

A pair of California Republican lawmakers praised Charlie Kirk in a Thursday statement, calling him a major leader in the conservative youth movement.

“In the 21st century, no one did more to lead the conservative youth movement than Charlie Kirk," Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher Leader-Elect Heath Flora said in a joint statement. “He spoke the truth, welcomed respectful debate, and never backed down from his beliefs, his faith, or his love of this country.”

“Charlie brought light into dark places. On campuses where free speech is under attack, he stood strong and gave others the courage to speak up,” the pair added. "As the founder of Turning Point USA, he organized a movement that will shape generations."

The Turning Point USA founder was a major figure in the conservative movement, visiting college campuses across the country to debate ideas with students.

The lawmakers said he was “bold in his faith, clear in his convictions, and fully embraced his conservative values.”

“Charlie is now with the Lord — but the work he started isn’t finished,” they said.

Comedy Central pulled planned reruns of the "South Park" episode that parodied late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk , who was assassinated Wednesday at age 31.

The episode, titled "Got a Nut," the second of the program’s 27th season, featured iconic "South Park" character Eric Cartman with a hairstyle similar to the late conservative influencer while lampooning Kirk's exchanges with students on college campuses. It originally aired on Aug. 6, and the episode showed Cartman receiving the "Charlie Kirk Award for Young Masterdebaters."

Comedy Central declined a request for comment.

In July, Kirk told Fox News Digital he appreciated the "South Park" parody.

Charlie Kirk assassin manhunt: Police find evidence that could be 'very important'

The investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk is going at a normal pace but caution should be urged about the image of a person of interest released by authorities on Thursday, Fox News contributor Paul Mauro said.

Secret Service under pressure: What Kirk’s assassination means for Trump’s security

The Secret Service has its hands full combating an unprecedented level of political threats, an issue underscored in the wake of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

While the Secret Service is initiating a series of changes to bolster its security practices following two assassination attempts on President Donald Trump last year, the agency is now operating at an extremely heightened state amid an unprecedented level of threats, according to experts.

"The Secret Service now has to play at a level of enhanced security that they've never dreamed of before. I think [Secret Service Director Sean Curran] is doing a good job in leading that effort," Tim Miller, who served as a Secret Service agent during Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton’s administrations, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. "But here's the bad news for the Secret Service: They don't have time. This threat is now. Can you imagine – they already shot our president once. Can you imagine if they're able to kill him?"

Kirk, 31, died after he was shot in the neck during his "American Comeback Tour" at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The assassination comes a year after two attempts to take the president’s life.

Twenty-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump from a rooftop during a campaign rally in July 2024, and one of the eight bullets shot grazed Trump's ear. The gunman also shot and killed Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old firefighter, father and husband attending the rally, and injured two others.

Likewise, Ryan Routh was apprehended and charged with attempting to assassinate Trump at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, in September 2024. Routh was charged with attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, among other things, and his trial kicked off on Thursday.

Bill Gage, who served as a Secret Service special agent during Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama’s administrations, said that even though the agency didn’t provide security during the Kirk event, it would conduct a review of the assassination like it does for others all over the world. As a result, the agency would perhaps consider enhancing smaller security details for members of Trump’s family, like the president’s son Barron, in response to Kirk’s death, Gage said.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., said Thursday that TikTok is taking down videos showing conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s final moments after he was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

She also shared TikTok’s response:

"We are saddened by the assassination of Charlie Kirk and send our deepest condolences to his wife Erika, their two young children, and their family and friends,” the company said. “These horrific violent acts have no place in our society. We remain committed to proactively enforcing our Community Guidelines and have implemented additional safeguards to prevent people from unexpectedly viewing footage that violates our rules."

Turning Point USA calls Charlie Kirk America's 'greatest martyr' to freedom of speech

Charlie Kirk became America's “greatest martyr” for freedom of speech following his assassination on a Utah college campus, Turning Point USA said.

In a statement, the group founded by Kirk said he received thousands of threats throughout his life because of his work, but always prioritized reaching out to young Americans.

“Now, Charlie has become America's greatest martyr to the freedom of speech he so adored,” the group said.

Kirk found Turing Point USA out of his parents' garage as an 18-year-old with no money, but only a dream, the group said. Kirk was known for debating ideas with students on college campuses across the country.

“Charlie refused to squander a single day of his life,” the statement reads. “He was a natural builder and problem solver, who loved a challenge and saw every setback as a chance to learn, grow, pray and try again.”

What is a bolt action rifle? What we know about the gun used to kill Charlie Kirk

The gun recovered by authorities in the assassination of Charlie Kirk was a bolt-action rifle — a common hunting weapon valued for its reliability but limited to a single shot before reloading.

Unlike a semi-automatic, the shooter must manually operate the bolt handle to cycle the weapon: lifting and pulling it back moves the spent cartridge, while pushing it forward chambers a new round from the magazine.

Lowering the bolt locks the round and seals the chamber, making the rifle ready to fire again — a simple, durable design that has kept it popular among hunters and target shooters.

"This process limits the rate of fire, you can only take one shot at a time," explained Retired Marine Lt. Col Hal Kempfer in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Kempfer noted that with a bolt-action rifle , the spent cartridge often remains in the chamber rather than being ejected, meaning shooters don’t leave behind shell casings or "brass" that investigators can use for forensics.

"That's just one of those things where you, if you've thought it through, you know that you can't leave any forensic evidence for investigators to work with," he said.

Charlie Kirk had ‘no fear’ going into Utah event where he was assassinated, friend says

A close friend who spoke with Charlie Kirk as the Turning Point USA Founder made his way to Utah told Fox News Digital that Kirk had "no fear" before his assassination  on Wednesday.

Brilyn Hollyhand, a 19-year-old political commentator and friend of Kirk’s, was texting with Kirk before the father of two was shot and killed while speaking on his American Comeback Tour.

"He was super energetic and excited," Hollyhand told Fox News Digital. "The comment [Kirk] made was like, this is going to be a big win, this is going to be the time that we keep Gen Z engaged in a non-election year."

The shooter assassinated Kirk while Kirk was while speaking under a tent at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. A single shot rang out among the crowd of thousands and a bullet struck the 31-year-old. Kirk was transferred to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kirk’s confidence and determination to embrace debate and put on large-scale events, despite threats, was nothing new, according to Hollyhand, who told Fox "in the 10 years that I've known Charlie Kirk, has he ever been afraid of one day."

"I've been in the green room with him at least half a dozen times when his security team let him know that there's some kind of threat, either physically or a threat has been made, and he's got to hold and wait in this holding room until the said threat is cleared," Hollyhand explained.

"It was never like, 'Oh, yeah, we're going to pack up and leave. We're going to go back to the safety of our home, and we're not going to go to campuses anymore'."

Charlie Kirk's casket to be flown on Air Force Two from Utah to Arizona

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk's casket will fly on Air Force Two from Utah to his home in Arizona on Thursday night, according to a source familiar with the plans.

Vice President JD Vance and the second lady diverted their travel plans to Utah to greet and grieve with Kirk's family Thursday morning. They had initially been scheduled to fly to New York City.

Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Turning Point USA is headquartered in Phoenix. Friends and followers of Kirk's gathered at the headquarters on Wednesday night for a vigil.

Vance shared a deeply personal remembrance of Kirk in a lengthy post on X, honoring his late friend as a man of courage, faith and profound loyalty.

"Charlie was one of the first people I called when I thought about running for Senate in early 2021," Vance wrote. "We talked through everything, from the strategy to the fundraising to the grassroots of the movement he knew so well. He introduced me to some of the people who would run my campaign and also to Donald Trump Jr."

Anti-Trump voices praise Charlie Kirk after assassination, say he was doing politics 'the right way'

Multiple media outlets and liberal journalists who often criticized the conservative views of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk offered sincere condolences and praise for the influential conservative activist following his assassination on a Utah university campus on Wednesday.

Outlets including The Washington Post and prominent liberal voices like CNN chief media analyst Brian Stelter denounced Kirk’s assassination, offered words of comfort for his family and acknowledged his talent and influence over American politics.

"Kirk, 31, was a hugely successful political field organizer, TikTok influencer, radio host, nonprofit leader and public speaker all rolled up in one telegenic figure," Stelter wrote in a CNN article published Wednesday.

Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday during the opening event of Turning Point's "The American Comeback Tour," held at Utah Valley University. Kirk was speaking from what was dubbed a "Prove Me Wrong Table" when he was assassinated in front of thousands of audience members, many of them college students.

The FBI announced Thursday that they have recovered the high-powered bolt action rifle believed to be the firearm used to assassinate Kirk. The suspect is still at large.

"With Turning Point USA, the nonprofit he co-founded in 2012 at age 18, Kirk built a next generation grassroots operation that was plugged directly into the GOP, much to the envy of his Democratic rivals," Stelter continued, adding, "Over the course of a decade, Kirk successfully transformed Turning Point into a nationwide powerhouse, styling himself as a mouthpiece for the youth wing of the MAGA movement."

The New York Times editorial board denounced Kirk’s assassination and offered condolences to his friends and family in an editorial published Wednesday.

"This editorial board disagreed with Mr. Kirk on many policy questions, and we are unreservedly horrified by his killing. We grieve for his loved ones. We mourn his death."

Charlie Kirk's murder the latest in increasing political violence nationwide

Before Charlie Kirk was gunned down on a Utah college campus, political violence was already increasing domestically, from President Donald Trump's attempted assassination to the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion being attacked by an arsonist during Passover Seder.

Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck by a yet-unknown assassin as he addressed a massive crowd at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Kirk's death sparked international outrage and mourning from figures including Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"Charlie Kirk was murdered for speaking truth and defending freedom," said Netanyahu, who called Kirk a "lion-hearted friend of Israel" who had been planning a trip to the Holy Land before he was assassinated.

Trump has faced two assassination attempts in recent years.

Ryan Routh, the suspect in the second alleged attempt, is currently in court in Fort Pierce, Fla., after he allegedly staked out a nearby golf course on which Trump was playing.

In 2024, Trump was shot in the ear by Thomas M. Crooks while he addressed a rally in Butler County, Pa.

Crooks, who had traveled from a Pittsburgh suburb, was shot dead by law enforcement, and Trump said he would have been killed if he hadn’t turned his head at the last second to describe a graphic on illegal immigration statistics.

Carolina Panthers fire staffer over insensitive Charlie Kirk assassination social media posts

The Carolina Panthers on Thursday fired an employee who made insensitive social media posts following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Rock, a member of the team’s communications department, was the staffer fired, a source briefed on the Panthers’ decision confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Social media posts linked to Rock appeared to show him questioning why people were sad that Kirk had been shot and killed. The song "Protect Ya Neck" from the Wu-Tang Clan was also shared.

"The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers," the team said in a statement posted to social media. "We do not condone violence of any kind. We are taking this matter very seriously and have accordingly addressed it with the individual."

"During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable," MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler said in a statement. "We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise."

Rock was far from the first person to lose their job for mocking the assassination of Kirk.

MSNBC fired analyst Matthew Dowd for his "unacceptable" comments about Kirk in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. The network previously denounced the comments Dowd made on the air.

Netanyahu hails Charlie Kirk as 'generational' defender of 'Judeo-Christian values'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mourned the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Thursday.

Netanyahu appeared on Fox News and recounted his interactions with Kirk one of his visits to Israel.

"First just let me say that we are just heartbroken, myself, my wife. My son, actually, during his 2019 visit to Israel had lunch with him and his wife, Erika. We're shattered," Netanyahu said.

"He wrote me a letter on May 2nd this year. He said, 'One of my greatest joys as a Christian is advocating for Israel and forming alliances to defend Judeo-Christian civilization,'" he said.

Netanyahu said he called Kirk after receiving the letter earlier this year and invited him to come to Israel again.

"Sadly that visit will not take place, but he was a defender of our common Judeo-Christian values. He was incredibly excited to walk in the footsteps of Jesus here. He valued our bond. The bond between America and Israel."

Apparent messages found on Kirk shooter's gun, ammo, sources say

Investigators have uncovered what appear to be messages on both the ammunition and the firearm recovered at the scene of Charlie Kirk's assassination, multiple sources told Fox News.

The FBI has declined to comment on reports of the messages.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls said authorities recovered "good video footage" of the shooter on UVU's campus. He said the shooter appeared to be "of college age," but declined to offer further details.

Former Navy SEAL Rep Eli Crane calls Charlie Kirk 'one of the most courageous' men he's 'ever met'

Republican Rep. Eli Crane of Arizona, who is a former Navy SEAL, described conservative activist Charlie Kirk as "one of the smartest" and "one of the most courageous" men he's "ever met."

Kirk was assassinated in Utah on Wednesday.

"Yesterday was a very rough day for a lot of the country, and me personally. Charlie Kirk had become a friend and mentor in ways," the congressman noted in part of a post on X. "He was not afraid to continually share his faith and beliefs. He was not afraid to debate anyone at any time, and for those keeping score, he usually won."

"I am disgusted and hurt by the murder of my friend. I’m also saddened that my children and yours must grow up in this world with so much wickedness and evil," he stated.

Crane included a photo of himself and Kirk.

He urged prayer for Kirk's widow and children.

"Let us keep his wife and children in prayer for peace that surpasses all understanding and enough love to comfort them in this time," the congressman wrote.

Charlie Kirk assassination witnesses describe minimal security, horrifying shooting

As law enforcement officials continue searching for the person behind the assassination of 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, witnesses describe a scene with minimal security at the event on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU) when the shooting took place.

"There were not a lot of cops there. I’ve seen more cops at UVU for sporting events than right now," a witness identified as Sam, who said he was a local high school student, told KUTV. Sam also wondered why there weren’t stricter security measures, such as bag checks before the event.

"They had cops above on the walkways who were stopping — what I assume — people from throwing stuff down towards him. So, I wonder why there wasn’t any level of security taken to stop people around, like, in front of him or anything like that," he added.

Kirk, who famously went to college campuses across the country to discuss politics with and debate young people, was fatally shot during an event at UVU on Wednesday afternoon. While an individual initially believed to be the shooter was taken into custody, authorities later determined that the person was not connected to the shooting.

Cooper Brown, who was managing the microphone at Kirk’s event, spoke with "Fox & Friends First" on Thursday morning about what he saw.

"Unfortunately, very, very soon after the question and answering started, I heard a very loud pop and I looked to my right and see Charlie Kirk, his body shake and blood begin to pour down from the side of his neck," Brown said.

House Republican mounts scorched earth bid to 'cancel' those who celebrated Kirk assassination

Republican Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana indicated that he will leverage all of the power and influence he can bring to bear to target those who have "belittled" and "celebrated" the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The congressman indicated that he will push for the permanent social media deplatforming of such individuals and go after their businesses.

"I’m going to use Congressional authority and every influence with big tech platforms to mandate immediate ban for life of every post or commenter that belittled the assassination of Charlie Kirk," Higgins asserted in the post on X. "If they ran their mouth with their smartass hatred celebrating the heinous murder of that beautiful young man who dedicated his whole life to delivering respectful conservative truth into the hearts of liberal enclave universities, armed only with a Bible and a microphone and a Constitution… those profiles must come down," he continued.

"So, I’m going to lean forward in this fight, demanding that big tech have zero tolerance for violent political hate content, the user to be banned from ALL PLATFORMS FOREVER," he added.

Higgins even said that their drivers licenses should be yanked.

"I’m also going after their business licenses and permitting, their businesses will be blacklisted aggressively, they should be kicked from every school, and their drivers licenses should be revoked. I’m basically going to cancel with extreme prejudice these evil, sick animals who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s assassination," he declared in the post on Thursday.

"I’m starting that today. That is all," he concluded.

Authorities recover suspected murder weapon in Charlie Kirk assassination, FBI says

Authorities have recovered what they believe to be the firearm used to assassinate conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the FBI announced Thursday.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls made the announcement during a Thursday morning press conference at Utah Valley University.

The weapon "is a high powered bolt action rifle. That rifle was recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled. So the FBI laboratory will be analyzing this weapon. Investigators have also collected footwear, the impression of a palm print and forearm imprints for analysis," Bohls said.

"We are not sure how far he has gone," Bohls added about the assassin.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason confirmed that the shooter appeared to be "of college age," but he declined to offer more identifying details.

Mason said footage from the campus showed the shooter climbed to the roof of a building overlooking Kirk's event. He then jumped from the building and fled to a nearby neighborhood after the shooting.

DNI Tulsi Gabbard says 'evil' assassination of Charlie Kirk 'is the very definition of terror'

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard called the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk "evil" and said that it "is the very definition of terrorism."

"The person who shot Charlie Kirk sought to silence him, using violence to take away his freedom of speech by ending his life and to terrorize those who think like Charlie into silence. This evil act is the very definition of terrorism: an unlawful use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political or 'religious' aims," she declared in part of a lengthy Thursday post on X.

Kirk was killed on Wednesday, the day before the grim anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

"Today, on the anniversary of 9/11, we recognize that whether it's Islamists like al-Qaeda, or the fanatics who try to stop Charlie Kirk and others from speaking the truth by banning them from campuses and ultimately by assassination, the one thing they have in common is that they are so afraid that their arguments, views, and policies will not stand when challenged in free and open debate, that they resort to violence — not only to silence the people they want to shut up but to terrorize everyone else into silence," she wrote.

"Charlie Kirk stood up to such fanatics who hate freedom and want to silence any who dare to challenge the so-called 'liberal' establishment. This assassin killed him to prevent his voice from being heard, prevent him from inspiring others, as he did every day, and to terrorize and intimidate the American people into silence," she asserted.

In the post, Gabbard included several photos of herself with Kirk.

"Charlie truly loved our country and dedicated his life to protecting our God-given rights. We must honor his life's work, and the promise of America, by continuing to lift our own voices and defend our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution," she declared.

Charlie Kirk assassination suspect evades manhunt as investigators analyze security footage

The suspect who shot and killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk remains on the run Thursday as investigators said they are analyzing security footage of a mystery individual "dressed in all dark clothing."

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was struck with a single bullet around 12:20 p.m. local time Wednesday while speaking at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem.

"The only information we have on the suspect, the possible shooter, is taken from closed-circuit TV here on campus," Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said Wednesday.

"We do have that. We're analyzing it. But it is security camera footage, so you can kind of guess what the quality of that is," he added. "But we do know, dressed in all dark clothing. But we don't have a much better description other than that."

The Utah Department of Public Safety said that Kirk, after being shot, was rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"This shooting is still an active investigation," the agency said in a statement. "The Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are co-leading this incident in unison with the Utah County Attorney’s office, the Utah County Sheriff’s office, and the local police departments."

"DPS’s State Crime Lab, along with all law enforcement involved, are working multiple active crime scenes. These were identified based on where the victim was shot, as well as the locations where the suspect and victim traveled," the statement continued.

FBI, Utah police hold press conference on manhunt for Charlie Kirk assassin

The FBI and Utah Department of Public Safety held a press conference Thursday morning updating the public on the manhunt for the suspect in Charlie Kirk's assassination.

The FBI Special Agent in Charge for the investigation spoke at the event alongside Utah DPS Commissioner Beau Mason.

Mason said the shooter arrived to the Utah Valley University Campus at 11:52 a.m. ahead of the shooting. He confirmed that law enforcement has "good video footage" of the shooter, who he said fled into a nearby neighborhood after the assassination.

"After the shooting, we were able to track his movements as he moved to the other side of the building, jumped off of the building and fled, off of the campus and into a neighborhood," Mason said.

There have been few updates on the manhunt since Wednesday evening, when authorities confirmed that two separate individuals had been detained for questioning after the shooting but were subsequently released.

Police say they have obtained security camera footage from the Utah Valley University campus showing a suspect dressed in all black.

Former NFL star Tim Tebow warned that "evil is real" in the wake of a shooting at a college campus in Utah that left conservative influencer Charlie Kirk dead on Wednesday.

Tebow was among the voices in the sports world who made posts on social media remember Kirk.

"Evil is real. There is no doubt, the enemy is hard at work," Tebow wrote on X. "These last few days, the weight of evil has been heavy across our nation. But this I know: It will not have the final word. One day, God will make all things right.

The Heisman Trophy winner and college football national champion added that he was praying for Kirk’s family in the wake of the shooting.

Charlie Kirk spoke out about Charlotte train slaying in video before he was assassinated

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk spoke out about the horrific slaying of Iryna Zarutska in a video shared to social media this week before Kirk was shockingly assassinated in Utah.

"Say the name Iryna Zarutska," Kirk said in a video.

Zarutska was brutally murdered last month while on a light rail in North Carolina.

"And a terrible person -- well, you saw what happened. I can't describe it here on TikTok without some sort of community guideline being violated. But if you haven't seen the video, you absolutely should," Kirk said, adding that the suspect, who had prior arrests, should not have been walking free. "And it really makes you wonder, why are we putting up with this?"

"What was the difference between George Floyd and Iryna Zarutska? Why did the left care so much about George Floyd, and they couldn't care less about Iryna Zarutska? What could the difference be? I wonder," he said, inviting people to leave comments.

Charlie Kirk painted as 'controversial,' 'provocative' in media’s assassination coverage

Mainstream media pundits eulogized the "controversial" and "divisive" Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk after he was the victim of a political assassination on Wednesday.

Kirk, the founder of one of the most influential political organizations in the country, was shot while holding an event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He later died of his wound, leaving the country reeling from another act of horrific political violence.

As facts of the shooting were being gathered, anchors and guests on MSNBC, CNN and ABC were quick to point out Kirk’s "divisive" politics.

"Charlie Kirk is a divisive figure, a polarizing lightning rod, whatever term you want to use," MSNBC host Katy Tur said on her show "Katy Tur Reports."

On "CNN News Central," CNN anchor and chief legal strategist Laura Coates said, "If this is in fact tied to his political ideology, given the fact that he is quite the lightning rod in many communities and has been accessible, and yet controversial, you‘ve got a very terrifying prospect for so many people who share his similar qualities."

"It’s no secret that Charlie Kirk has said a number of controversial things over the years, in particular about DEI, Jews, women, LGBTQ community, people of color," ABC News’ Kyra Phillips said.

A New York Times headline used passive language of "dies" rather than he was murdered.

MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd went as far as to suggest Kirk’s "hateful" words influenced the shooting, claiming that it could have been caused by "a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration."

"He has been one of the most divisive, especially divisive, younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to ‘hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions,’" Dowd said.

Dowd was later fired for his comments.

A university spokesperson told Fox News Digital the shooting happened at about 12:20 p.m. The TPUSA founder was taken to a local hospital in critical condition after being shot. He died at the hospital.

While the FBI previously said a subject was in custody, the individual was later released after interrogation.

Prior to the shooting, people could be seen crowding around a white tent with text reading "THE AMERICAN COMEBACK" and "PROVE ME WRONG." An event organizer told Fox News Digital around 1,400 people RSVP'ed for the event, with people from "many states" in attendance.

The video showed people scrambling to leave after the shot was fired.

Joey Gallegos, a Utah Valley University student who was at the event, told Fox News Digital "everyone decided to run like out of the courtyard," adding that people were "tripping over each other and trying to jump over the barricade."

Samuel Lino, a volunteer at the event, told Fox News Digital that Kirk met with people working the event before it started and was "super excited to talk to Utah Valley University."

MSNBC fires analyst Matthew Dowd for 'unacceptable' comments about Charlie Kirk

MSNBC has fired political analyst Matthew Dowd for suggesting "hateful" rhetoric from Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk led to his own assassination, two sources familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital.

The network previously denounced Dowd's comments on social media.

"During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk , Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable," MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler said in a statement. "We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise."

A spokesperson for MSNBC declined to comment. Dowd joined MSNBC in 2022 after a long stint at ABC News.

After Kirk was shot Wednesday afternoon, Dowd suggested it was caused by a chain reaction from his "hateful words" against various groups. Kirk, a leading conservative activist and top ally of President Donald Trump, later died at the age of 31.

Before the news that Kirk had died, Dowd told MSNBC host Katy Tur, "We don’t know any of the full details of this yet. We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration."

Dowd said Kirk has been "one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions."

"I think that’s the environment we’re in, that the people just — you can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have, and then saying these awful words, and not expect awful actions to take place. And that's the unfortunate environment we're in," he added.

Dowd tried to backtrack on the liberal social media platform Bluesky.

"On an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in. I apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack. Let us all come together and condemn violence of any kind," Dowd wrote.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom decries murder of Charlie Kirk as 'sick and reprehensible'

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, condemned the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk as "sick and reprehensible."

"We should all feel a deep sense of grief and outrage at the terrible violence that took place in Utah today. Charlie Kirk's murder is sick and reprehensible, and our thoughts are with his family, children, and loved ones," Newsom declared in a statement.

"I knew Charlie, and I admired his passion and commitment to debate. His senseless murder is a reminder of how important it is for all of us, across the political spectrum, to foster genuine discourse on issues that deeply affect us all without resorting to political violence," Newsom continued.

"The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence," the governor added. "Honest disagreement makes us stronger; violence only drives us further apart and corrodes the values at the heart of this nation."

Kirk spoke with Newsom as the first guest on the governor's "This is Gavin Newsom" podcast earlier this year.

"Unsurprisingly, Newsom is charming and friendly in-person," Kirk wrote in an opinion piece after appearing on the podcast. "You don’t become governor of 40 million people without having some charisma. But there’s clearly a layer beneath the charm. I saw that Newsom wants to be president more than any living person (and possibly every dead person, too). He is an ambitious man, and his new podcast is clearly a product of that ambition."

JD Vance pens heartfelt tribute to Charlie Kirk after assassination

Vice President JD Vance shared a deeply personal remembrance of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University.

In a lengthy post on X, Vance honored his late friend as a man of "courage," "faith" and profound loyalty.

"Charlie was fascinated by ideas and always willing to learn and change his mind," wrote the vice president. "Like me, he was skeptical of Donald Trump in 2016. Like me, he came to see President Trump as the only figure capable of moving American politics away from the globalism that had dominated for our entire lives."

"Charlie was one of the first people I called when I thought about running for senate in early 2021. We talked through everything, from the strategy to the fundraising to the grassroots of the movement he knew so well. He introduced me to some of the people who would run my campaign and also to Donald Trump Jr."

Kirk, a longtime advocate for young people in the conservative movement, was described by Vance as pivotal to President Trump's decision-making process in his selection as running mate in 2024.

"When I became the VP nominee—something Charlie advocated for both in public and private—Charlie was there for me… Charlie was constantly calling and texting, checking on our family and offering guidance and prayers," Vance added.

Rep. Eric Burlison: 'Charlie Kirk should lie in rest in the Capitol Rotunda'

In the wake of the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Republican Rep. Eric Burlison of Missouri asserted that "Charlie Kirk should lie in rest in the Capitol Rotunda."

"America has done this before for private citizens like Rev. Billy Graham," the congressman added in his post on X.

Graham lay in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda following his death in 2018.

The congressman continued, "@realDonaldTrump can make it happen. And as I reflect on his impact I have to come to the conclusion that no one has had a greater impact on the political climate of the United States for the last decade than Charlie Kirk," Burlison wrote.

A document from the Architect of the Capitol states, "The Rotunda of the United States Capitol, completed in 1824, has historically been considered the most suitable place for the nation to pay final tribute to its most eminent citizens by having their remains lie in state (in the case of government officials and military officers) or in honor (in the case of private citizens). These occasions are either authorized by a congressional resolution or approved by the congressional leadership, when permission is granted by survivors."

House Speaker Mike Johnson warns ‘turn the volume down’ after Kirk killing

House Speaker Mike Johnson warned that America’s “toxic” politics are fueling violence in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death.

“We have to call out political violence . I think there is a recognition. Some are saying it openly, some more quietly that the vitriol, the level that is there. Now, the hatred that has been fomented, you know, there's a time that we've got to turn the volume down,” Johnson said speaking to CNN.

He talked about Congress' strong security protocols and the fact that members are increasingly nervous about being exposed in public, especially after after the campus shooting in Utah that left Kirk dead.

“What we have to recognize once more is that we are all fellow Americans,” Johnson said. “We should see one another as colleagues and fellow countrymen, not as enemies. That’s not what Charlie Kirk represented. He loved the debate because he genuinely loved the people.”

Johnson went on to confirm that as a result of the attack, lawmakers are requesting heightened security, calling it part of the “new realities” facing public figures.

“We have to take serious measures for serious times,” he added.

“There are deranged people in society, and if they are encouraged along this way, they will do dangerous things,” he warned.

Student petition had criticized UVU for hosting Charlie Kirk, citing 'divisive rhetoric'

Charlie Kirk’s visit to Utah Valley University on his "American Comeback" tour sparked fierce backlash online.

A Change.org petition, “Prevent Charlie Kirk from speaking at Utah Valley University,” racked up nearly 1,000 signatures ahead of the event.

The petition took aim at UVU’s own branding. “Utah Valley University's tagline is ‘a place for you,’” it declared. “How then, can the university claim to represent inclusion and diversity by allowing an influencer like Charlie Kirk to have a platform?”

Supporters accused Kirk of undermining the campus environment. “As students at Utah Valley University, we have come to cherish an environment that strives for inclusivity and diversity. Yet, the planned speaking engagement of Charlie Kirk threatens this ideal,” the petition said.

Critics argued that hosting Kirk sent the wrong message: “Giving a platform to someone whose views are in direct opposition to these principles undermines UVU's commitment to being ‘a place for you.’”

The petition has 943 signatures and has since been closed.

Reverend Graham remembers Charlie Kirk as a ‘courageous communicator of truth’

Rev. Franklin Graham, one of the nation’s most prominent Christian voices, told Fox News Digital that “America is mourning the loss of Charlie Kirk.”

“Our hearts break for his wife and family. He loved this country, loved God, and loved his family. He was a gifted and courageous communicator of truth. Even more importantly, Charlie Kirk was a passionate follower of the Lord Jesus Christ,” said Graham.

Charlie Kirk leaves behind his wife, Erika, a 3-year-old daughter, and a 1-year-old son.“

He wasn’t afraid to talk to anyone about the issues our society is facing today—and he wasn’t ashamed to talk about his personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. He said in an interview that his salvation was ‘a gift that grows sweeter with time,’” said Graham.

The president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association shared that he is appreciative of the work Charlie did to encourage, engage, and inform young college students across the nation.

“His voice will be greatly missed, but I pray that God will raise up an army of young men and women like him who will stand up for the same important issues,” he added.

Graham says Kirk lived boldly for Jesus Christ, who said, “’I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.’”

Senator Warren on gun violence: ‘Congress could change that and should change that’

Daily Caller shared video Wednesday of Sen. Elizabeth Warren speaking outside the Capitol after the shooting of Charlie Kirk, zeroing in on gun violence.

“What Congress can do is gun safety and every time there's a killing the Republicans say this is not the time to [talk] about gun safety, and yet we have to, as a nation, we have more gun deaths than most other nations,” Warren said.

“If the rest of the country would just follow the rules we follow in Massachusetts, we could reduce fatalities all over this country.”

Warren also pushed back on claims that legislation cannot solve the problem: “You can change whether or not they have a lethal weapon in their hands and the likelihood that they will be able to kill another person or to kill themselves goes up if they have a lethal weapon… Congress could change that and should change that.”

She closed with a warning: “If you're alive and breathing in the United States right now, you understand that the risks have simply escalated. And the United States Congress could act and so far simply refuses.”

Authorities in Utah provided an update on a manhunt for the gunman who fatally shot Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, as state and federal agencies co-lead the investigation into what officials believe was a targeted attack.

The Utah Department of Public Safety said in a press release that Kirk was speaking at the event at about 12:20 p.m. local time when he was shot.

“We initially took in George Zinn as a suspect. He was later released and charged with obstruction by UVU police,” the department said. “A second suspect, Zachariah Qureshi, was taken into custody and released after interrogation with law enforcement.  There are no current ties to the shooting with either of these individuals. The FBI asks anyone with information about the shooting to reach out using a tip line, which can be found here.

Trump mourns Charlie Kirk as ‘martyr for truth and freedom,’ blames left, media for fueling violence

President Donald Trump mourned Charlie Kirk as a patriot and “martyr for truth and freedom,” condemning his assassination as a dark moment for America and blaming left-wing rhetoric and the media for fueling the political violence behind his killing.

Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University when the sound of a single shot rang across a large crowd, striking the Turning Point USA founder.

While speaking from the Oval Office on Wednesday night in a video posted to Truth Social, Trump said he was filled with grief and anger over the “heinous assassination” of Kirk.

CHARLIE KIRK, TURNING POINT USA FOUNDER, DEAD AT 31 AFTER UTAH CAMPUS SHOOTING

Charlie inspired millions , and tonight, all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror. Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loved so much, the United States of America,” Trump said. “He fought for liberty, democracy, justice, and the American people. He's a martyr for truth and freedom. And there's never been anyone who was so respected by youth.”

The president also called Kirk a man of deep faith, adding that he takes comfort knowing that Kirk is at peace with God in Heaven.

“This is a dark moment for America. Charlie Kirk traveled the nation, joyfully engaging with everyone interested in good-faith debate. His mission was to bring young people into the political process, which he did better than anybody. To share his love of country and to spread the simple words of common sense,” Trump said.

“It's a long past time for all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree day after day, year after year, in the most hateful and despicable way possible,” he continued. “For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.

“My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law enforcement officials, and everyone else who brings order to our country,” Trump added. “From the attack on my life in Butler, Pennsylvania last year, which killed a husband and father, to the attacks on ice agents; to the vicious murder of a healthcare executive in the streets of New York, to the shooting of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and three others. Radical left political violence has hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives.”

He added that he led a prayer in the chamber, but when it came to a vocal prayer, House members argued instead.

DAVID MARCUS: Progressive madness killed Charlie Kirk, a once-in-a-generation leader

A generational leader in the conservative movement was lost on Wednesday, as Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated during a live event at a Utah university, the latest in a rash of political violence tearing America apart.

For millions of Americans, especially the young, Kirk was an inspiration whose message of patriotism and self-reliance shone like a bright light in our cynical age of national self-hatred. But for millions of others, this made him a very dangerous threat.

When Kirk founded TPUSA, back in 2012, it wasn’t supposed to be possible that a conservative could walk onto college campuses, those most high bastions of far leftism, and not just command a crowd, but create a movement.

At that time, being a young conservative was almost an oxymoron. Yet, here was a walking, talking Alex P. Keaton with a rapier wit and a finger on the pulse of how so many college-age Americans really felt, how frustrated they really were. He was a happy warrior, who engaged those with whom he disagreed in good faith and decency.
