Drug-overdose deaths in the Big Apple have shot up by 22 percent so far this year, police officials said Monday.
The city has seen 344 overdose deaths so far this year, up from 283 in the same period last year, officials said.

“Each overdose will get the same focus that we do on a homicide,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said at a City Council hearing on public safety.
Cops saved 271 people from overdoses so far this year, Boyce said.
“They’ve saved a lot of people out there,” he said.
