Laurent Lantieri says the patient "is doing well."
Lantieri said Thursday by telephone that the operation took place June 27 at the Henri Mondor hospital in the Paris suburb of Creteil.
The hospital's press service says the patient was a 35-year-old man with a genetic disorder.
No other details were immediately available.
A hospital in Barcelona, Spain, says it conducted the world's first full-face transplant in April. The French operation was the 12th facial transplant carried out worldwide.
