Moore is the international chairwoman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and most recently testified on Capitol Hill before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing on Type 1 Diabetes Research. June 2008: Pop star Nick Jonas, who also testified on Capitol Hill with Moore, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2005. Two years later, while performing at a Diabetes Research Institute fundraiser in New York City, Nick asked audience members to raise their hands if they had the disease. Elizabeth Perkins, best known for her role in "Big" and "Weeds," was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2005. She is one of 26 million Americans who have the disease. Perkins says she was in denial at first - and often took her medicine behind closed doors, without discussing it with anyone. Now, she wants to help others - she's partnered with Sanofi US to participate in "Diabetes Co-Stars," a campaign to improve patients' networks, which in turn will help them manage the disease.
