Fall food-lovers crave just one thing this time of year: pumpkin everything.
Taya Kyle, widow of former US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, stopped by Fox & Friends with retired NYPD officer Walter Wasilewski to share a family favorite recipe for a moist, delightfully sweet pumpkin bread
Kyle says her great-great aunt Blanche, who lived to be 104, came up with the recipe and it's been passed down through years.
“She walked a mile a day, lived on her own, I mean no joke, right above the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, an incredible woman,” she explains. Kyle's
"Auntie B." used sour cream to keep it moist and plenty of traditional fall spices like nutmeg and cinnamon.
For her family, Kyle says making bread wasn’t just about having something tasty at home—but it became a fall tradition to make plenty of batches to share with others.
Kyle says her family would wrap up the loaves, tie them with decorative ribbons and share the bread with friends, neighbors and family throughout the holiday season. She carried on the tradition with her husband and even today she continues to hand out home baked goods with their two children.
Wasilewski, who served during 9/11 as a first responder, is the most highly decorated retired NYPD officer. He is currently an ambassador to the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation.
Says Kyle, “we’re passionate about helping marriages. But anything you can do for a first responder or veteran around you is good too.”
Show a veteran or loved one you care with a loaf of homemade pumpkin bread this fall.
