Maybe there’s a silver lining after all.
After its rejection of its Peace Day “McWhopper” idea, Burger King says it’s going to move forward with a collaborative burger anyway –without McDonalds.
Last week, Burger King put out ads in major newspapers calling for a one-day truce in the “war” with its rival McDonald’s to create a mash-up burger idea to be sold on World Peace Day, which is September 21.
McDonald's publicly turned down the proposal, but now Burger King says that an "incredible thing" came from the rejection: "a significant number of unexpected responses from other restaurants, large and small" wanting to create a special edition “Peace Burger.”
Burger King Tuesday put out an open letter to the slew of other fast food chains who offered to fill McDonald’s shoes, which now includes Denny's, Krystal, Wayback Burgers, and the Florida-based Giraffas.
"All we need from you guys is a simple 'yes' plus your cooperation and a donation to Peace One Day." Burger King says proceeds of the burger will go to Peace One Day, a non-profit that raises awareness for World Peace Day.
Burger King says that Atlanta pop-up restaurant it planned to use to sell the “McWhopper” is already under construction, so why not.
Looks like things are cooking.
