'Zero Dark Thirty' Actress Jessica Chastain Rumored for Lead in Marilyn Monroe Biopic

The upcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic "Blonde" may have just found its leading lady in Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain, according to The Wrap. READ: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Marilyn Monroe Chastain, of "The Help" and "Zero Dark Thirty," is reportedly in talks to star as the platinum-blonde bombshell in a film adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' novel of the same name. The movie, which concerns itself with Monroe's inner struggles on her rise to fame, is also likely to be produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment and written/directed by Andrew Dominik ("The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" and "Killing Them Softly"). But don't expect "Blonde" to be another cut-and-dry biographical picture. Oates' book was a slightly fictitious take on the life of Monroe (aka Norma Jeane Baker), and Dominik's script will reportedly stay true to the source material. "It's very pseudo-Freudian," Dominik once told IndieWire. "The lines between fantasy and reality become very blurred in the story." READ: The Secrets To Marilyn Monroe's Amazing Body Speaking at Cannes around the same time, Dominik further described his vision as "a really sprawling, emotional nightmare fairy-tale type movie … It's a story about an abandoned orphan who gets lost in the woods." A film version of "Blonde" has been in development for quite some time, too. Dominik began his screenplay in 2009, and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment came on board to produce in mid-2012. Australian actress Naomi Watts was once attached to star when filming was set to begin in 2013, but plans were eventually put on hold, and Watts was out. Now it's Chastain's turn to channel Monroe in "Blonde," which is tentatively set for a 2015 release, at least according to IMDB. And with two Oscar-nominations already under her belt, she'll no doubt deliver a Marilyn-worthy performance. We just hope they document her love of stuffing and female facial hair.
