The Latin American Music Award nominations are out and two acts are vying for the most awards.
Reggaeton star Yandel and la Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga (Banda MS) led the pack with six nominations each, followed closely by Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias with five.
J Balvin and Los Plebes de Ariel Camacho each had four nominations.
Yandel, Banda MS, J Balvin, Los Plebes de Ariel Camacho and Nicky Jam are all nominated for artist of the year.
The nominations were announced Wednesday on Telemundo.
Organizers also announced that there will be a tribute to Mexican icon Juan Gabriel, who died from a heart attack earlier this week. “El Divo de Juárez,” as he was known, was posthumously nominated for three awards: album of the year, favorite rock/pop album for “Los Duo 2” and favorite pop/rock male artist.
The first round of performers for the awards show was also revealed.
CNCO, Gerardo Ortiz, Gente de Zona, Jesse & Joy, Prince Royce, Victor Manuelle and Dvicio are slated to perform at the ceremony on Oct. 6.
The second annual Latin American Music Award will be hosted by Mexican singer and actress Lucero, who will also perform during the show, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
