It’s a surprising move.
Woody Allen is making a TV show… for Amazon.
Amazon announced on Tuesday that Allen had gotten the green light for a full season of a currently untitled half-hour series for the streaming service. The episodes of the show will all be written and directed by Allen.
“I don’t know how I got into this," Allen said in a statement. "I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.”
Roy Price is the Vice President of Amazon Studios.
“Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series,” Price said. “From ‘Annie Hall’ to ‘Blue Jasmine,’ Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”
Amazon’s original series “Transparent” was awarded two Golden Globes on Sunday night. The show took home the trophy for best TV musical or comedy, and star Jeffrey Tambor took home the award for best actor in a TV comedy or musical.
