Sony, R. Kelly part ways amid mounting sexual assault allegations against singer: reports

Embattled singer R. Kelly and his longtime record label Sony have parted ways, according to multiple reports.

Billboard and Variety reported Friday that Kelly and Sony have agreed to terminate their relationship. Kelly signed with Sony at the beginning of his career in the early 1990s and has been signed to Sony's RCA records since 2012.

The news comes in the wake of new sexual misconduct allegations against the R&B star.

Reps for Kelly and Sony did not immediately return Fox News request for comment.

Allegations against the "Ignition" singer have increasingly made headlines following the airing of the Lifetime documentary "Surviving R. Kelly" which features interviews from some of his alleged accusers, many of which were underage at the time of the alleged encounters. He has denied all of the allegations.

PROSECUTORS URGE R. KELLY ACCUSERS TO COME FORWARD

The #MeToo and #MuteRKelly movements have held protests outside of Kelly's Chicago studio demanding promoters stop booking his concerts. Earlier this week, Chicago building inspectors said they found code violations at Kelly's recording studio, including evidence the industrial space was used as a residence.

Building Department spokesman Gregg Cunningham said the agency will list the violations during a court hearing next week. He says the inspectors were looking at plumbing, electrical systems and carpentry.

Kelly's attorney, Steve Greenburg, said no one was living at the studio and it should not be surprising that it included places for sleeping or taking breaks.

After Cook County, Ill. state attorney Kim Foxx urged possible Kelly victims to come forward in a press conference last week, Greenburg told the Associated Press that the "Surviving R. Kelly" accusations were false, and simply "another round of stories [being used to] fill reality TV time." He added that it was inappropriate for a D.A. to characterize allegations she'd seen on TV before actually filing charges or launching an investigation into the claims.

Foxx told reporters at the press conference: "The recent allegations against entertainer R. Kelly in a recent Lifetime docuseries are deeply, deeply disturbing. It is our job at the Cook County state attorney's office to investigate claims in the interest of justice and of public safety. I should stress that it takes courage to re-live and re-experience trauma by telling your story of sexual victimization, but we rely heavily on victim accounts and witness statements to prosecute cases involving sexual assault and domestic violence."

Kelly was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008 after he was accused of making a sex tape with a 14-year-old girl.
