Singer Adele backpedals on five-year hiatus comments

After winning six Grammy Awards and selling million of albums worldwide, British singing sensation Adele stunned the music industry by suggesting she is about to take the next five years off in an interview with Vogue magazine.

The 23-year-old, whose full name is Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, told US Vogue -- in an interview carried out well before Sunday's Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, but only widely reported Tuesday -- that she wants a break from her career to concentrate on her relationship.

"I am f------ off for four or five years. If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy," she said when asked about her future.

But the singer took to her blog Wednesday to shoot down the reports.

"I've a few days off now, and then it's the Brit Awards here at home and then I'm straight into the studio. BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!" the British star penned Tuesday.

In the original interview, the singer, whose best-selling album "21" was fueled by a failed relationship, said she was "madly in love" with her 37-year-old boyfriend Simon Konecki, a British charity fundraiser.

"He's wonderful. He looks after me," she said.

Adele's expressed desire for a break came as a particular shock to her fans, considering she used the Grammy Awards to stage a return performance after having surgery on her vocal chords last year to remove polyps.

She did reveal to Vogue, however, that it was her enforced silence as she recovered from the surgery that may have led to the dramatic statement.

"I've never fully appreciated the things that I've achieved until now," she said. "In fact, my entire life has changed in the last 10 weeks. I've never been so happy, and I love it."

Adele took out three major awards at the Grammys -- Album Of The Year for "21," Record Of The Year for "Rolling In The Deep" and Best Song for writing "Rolling In The Deep" with Paul Epworth. She also took out Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance with "Someone Like You," Best Pop Vocal Album with "21" and Best Short Form Music Video with "Rolling In The Deep."
