PHOTOS: Princess Charlotte Christened During Holiday Weekend
While Americans were kicking off the Fourth of July weekend with fireworks and mouthwatering barbecue, the Brits were celebrating for a completely different reason: On July 5th, Princess Charlotte, now fourth in line to the UK throne, was christened in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge proudly showed off their growing family for several thousand well-wishers, and even big brother Prince George entertained viewers with his adorableness.
“The royal couple announced ahead of the christening that they had chosen five godparents for the princess,” reports BBC News, adding that Charlotte has two fewer godparents than George, and “none from within royal circles”: "When it came to godparents there wasn’t a monarch, or a knight or a dowager in sight,” they write. “Now, William and Kate have turned to their close friends and their close family to fulfill this role.”
The site also notes that one of Princess Diana’s relatives is a godmother to Charlotte, and that the christening took place in the very same church where Diana herself was baptized.
And just like her brother, Charlotte was christened in a replica of the lace christening gown originally made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria, in 1841.
“This was the first time William, Kate, George and Charlotte have been seen together,” says BBC News. “Such sightings won’t become commonplace. The Cambridges are keen to limit their children’s public appearance as they grow up.”
