LL Cool J stepped out Sunday night at the Microsoft Theatre as he prepared to present at the 67th annual Emmy awards. It was a sweltering 106 degrees outside.
“It’s literally on fire on the red carpet-- figuratively, literally, all the words you could use to describe it. It’s just unbelievable,” he told FOX411. “I think it’s gonna be a great night.”
History was made this year as two African-American women were nominated for lead actress in a drama series category, Viola Davis, of “How to Get Away with Murder,” and Taraji P. Henson, of “Empire.” Davis won the award and LL Cool J praised both the actresses ahead of the show.
“I think ultimately talent will get you there. If you have talent, if you have endurance to deal with what you have to deal with to rise through the ranks, you can make it,” he explained. “Anything is possible. You really gotta work hard and be dedicated and committed.”
LL Cool J also spoke highly the beauty industry’s willingness to include lots of different women.
“I’m a black man, and I was raised with black women around me my entire life. They were always beautiful to me,” he said. “But I am happy to see different people like Lupita (Nyong’o) on the cover of Vogue. So it’s nice and magical to see all types of people being recognized because all people are beautiful. You have pretty people and ugly people in every race.”
