Military wife's singing career takes off Video

A young military wife and mother’s karaoke performance has won her a spot singing at a Rascal Flatts concert this weekend.

Kimberly Morlino, 28, of Virginia Beach, Va., was chosen as the Grand Prize winner in the nationwide Flatts Fest Karaoke Challenge.

Morlino’s video performance of “Black Velvet” garnered nearly 15 percent of the 35,000-plus votes cast in the online Facebook poll set up to decide a winner. Morlino recorded her performance at Farm Bureau Live in Virginia Beach.

Now, Morlino will be performing live at the Farm Bureau on June 24 before Rascal Flatts takes the stage.

Morlino’s love of Rascal Flatts extends to her relationship with her husband, who serves with the U.S. military. “'God Bless the Broken Road' is our song,” she said in a statement announcing her win. She and her husband talk as often as they can, but she sometimes struggles with the demanding life of a military wife and mother. “Being a part of the contest has helped me not miss him quite as much.”
