January 5th marks the start of the gruelling Dakar Rally, a 15-day, 5,500-mile off-road race through the deserts and mountains of Peru, Argentina and Chile. It's the ultimate test of man and machine, and this year one team like no other before it is taking on the challenge.![race2recovery_661]()
The Race2Recovery team is made up of wounded members of the U.S. and British military who defy the word "disabled," including Americans Marine Staff Sergeant Mark Zambon and Cpl. Tim Read, who both lost legs to IEDs while serving in Afghanistan. Just two years after being injured, they'll be screaming across South America at speeds of up to 120 mph in specially prepared Land Rover-based Wildcat off-road vehicles.![race2recovery_660]()
Zambon, who climbed Africa's Mt.
