Armored Cars for Superstars

Safety sells a lot of cars, but airbags and accident avoidance systems are not enough for some people. Instead, these well-heeled and well-known members of society are more concerned about armor-piercing bullets and IED than fender benders. Lucky for them a number of luxury automakers are more than happy to oblige.

    Jaguar XJ Sentinel

The 2011 Jaguar XJ is one of the sleekest and sexiest sedans in the world, but like a stiletto-clad spy, the Sentinel model hides the fact that it can take care of itself in the face of an all-out assault by a crack team of international bad guys. Not only is its armor strong enough to repel fire from just about any handgun or rifle known to man, but it can withstand the blast from 33 pounds of TNT.

    BMW 7-Series High Security

Even though the BMS 7-Series High Security provides the highest levels of ballistic protection that you’ll find in any automobile, sometimes that’s still not enough. For worst-case scenarios, the sedan also has an automatic fire extinguisher and carries its own fresh air supply in case you need to drive through tear gas or other noxious fumes. And while it’s not fitted with an ejector seat, if all else fails the windshield doubles as an emergency exit that can only be opened from within.

    Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon LAPV 6.X

Mercedes-Benz already offers protective versions of several of its mainstream vehicles in Europe, but this one could drive all over them. The G-Wagon Light Armoured Patrol Vehicle 6.X isn’t for sale…yet, but the diesel-powered concept has a cargo capacity of 2,600 pounds, an 18-inch ground clearance, and a fully-armored body with removable panels that includes a land mine deflector plate. We’re not sure if satellite radio is on the options list, but a military-grade EADS communication system with radio jammer should get you to your target, or Target, just fine.
