    2010 Los Angeles Auto Show

Depending on how you look at it, the LA Auto Show is either the last one of  the 2010 season, or the first for the 2011 model year. Either way, this year's event is filled with a collection of convertibles, concepts and eco-concious cars that should finally get the word "bailout" off of your brain.

  • 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
2012 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible What better way to celebrate the opening of the L.A. auto show – not to mention General Motors’ IPO - than with a good, old-fashioned convertible muscle car. Delayed as a result of the company’s bankruptcy and bailout, the drop-top Camaro is finally headed for showrooms in February, available in V6 and V8 versions.

  • Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept
Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept Cadillac sales may be up, but the premium automaker could be planning a little downsizing if the Urban Luxury Concept is any indication. The chiseled four-seat coupe is about the size of a Chevy Aveo subcompact, but features scissor-style doors and an upscale interior worthy of the Cadillac crest. Power comes from a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with a dual-clutch transmission and electric assist that the company says is good for 56 mpg in the city and 65 mpg on the highway.

  • 2012 Range Rover Evoque
2012 Range Rover Evoque The tiny, two-door Range Rover Evoque debuted at the Paris Auto Show earlier this year, but the company decided to take the wraps off a four-door version in America, where bigger is always better. Powered by a 240 hp turbocharged four cylinder that Land Rover gets from its old owner, Ford, the Evoque is the first car the company has ever made that’s available in front-wheel-drive, although the all-wheel-drive is sure to be the popular choice.

  • 2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet
2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet It’s not that often than crossover steals the spotlight at an auto show, but it’s not to often that one looks like this. The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet is a topless, two-door version of the automaker’s popular family hauler. Expected show up merely as concept, the company took the occasion to announce that the five-passenger, all-wheel drive convertible is heading to showrooms next year for $46,390 where it will compete with…well, nothing else like it.

  • Toyota Rav4EV
Toyota Rav4 EV Toyota was one of the first major automakers to offer an electric car way back in 1997 with the Rav4 EV. Now with the help of Tesla – in which the Japanese automaker recently invested $50 million - a new battery-powered Rav4 is set to hit the road next year. A demonstration fleet of 35 vehicles with a range of 100 miles per charge will get some real world miles under their tires before the Rav4 EV officially enters production for 2012.

  • 2012 Fiat 500
2012 Fiat 500 Thanks to its retro-cute looks, the Fiat 500 may be the most recognizable car not sold in America. But that changes now. After years of anticipation, the Italian automaker took the wraps off of the slightly-modified U.S. version of the subcompact, which goes on sale in a few weeks with a starting price of just $15,500. Alterations to make it better suited to the American market include a stronger body for safety, more powerful climate control, and a larger gas tank for getting across this big country of ours.

  • Nissan Ellure
Nissan Ellure Attention women in your 30s and 40s with a sense of sophistication and rebellion, because Nissan says that it designed the Ellure concept just for you. This re-imagination of the sedan includes a panoramic door opening that leads into a lounge-like wraparound interior filled with what Nissan describes as "molten, thermal energy." Real energy is saved by a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter internal combustion engine with a lithium-ion battery-powered electric motor and continuously variable transmission. Oh, yea, and it has a trunk. It is a sedan, after all.

  • 2012 Volkswagen Eos
2012 Volkswagen Eos Volkswagen has been trading curves for creases with many of its recent cars, like the new Jetta, and the redesigned 2012 Eos follows suit. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine connected to VW’s twin-clutch automatic transmission, the convertible goes from chubby to chic, and eliminates some of its chick-car persona in the process, even if Heidi Klum still looks good standing next to it.

2011 Porsche Cayman R Porsche trimmed 121 pounds off of its Cayman coupe by dropping a few non-essential items like air conditioning and the stereo, while adding things like aluminum door panels and carbon fiber seats to create the 2011 Cayman R, the most track-focused version of the mid-engine two-seater yet. A 330 horsepower six-cylinder engine and lower, stiffer suspension help put your $66,300 to good use.
