WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES - Assassin kills Russian ambassador to Turkey at photo exhibit
A gunman believed to be a Turkish special forces officer wields gun after shooting Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov Monday at a photo gallery in Ankara.
The gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" and is believed to have been angry about Russian action in Aleppo, Syria.
The gunman was shot dead moments later.
The incident was caught on camera, as well as video, as it occurred at a public event covered by the media.
Karlov, who was shot at least once in the back, was previously ambassador to North Korea.
The assassination comes as tensions between Russia and Turkey had begun to thaw after Turkey shot down a Russian fighter plane over a year ago.
Karlov is shown here speaking at the gallery, as the man who would kill him looms in the background.
Members of the audience huddle in fear as the gunman waves his weapon around and rants angrily.
This woman is shown comforting a child in the aftermath of the chilling incident.
