Berlin Wall Rises Again?

August 10: A visitor paints on a remaining part of the former Wall in Berlin, as part of the project "Write the Wall". The segment of the wall is open for tourist, visitors and others to write or paint on and will be open till November 2009, when Germany will mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. A fixed camera takes pictures continuously which then will be published on the internet to document the art project.

August 10: Darwin, an eight day old male giraffe calf with a bandage on his left front leg, is seen being fed by a staff member, from the Safari Park, in Ramat Gan near Tel Aviv, Israel. The calf receives four meals a day by Safari workers because he was born disabled and could not nurse from his mother.

Taiwan Typhoon

August 10: A young woman pauses as she cleans furniture in a flooded street of Pingtung county, southern Taiwan. An estimated 400 Taiwanese are unaccounted for after the landslide spawned by Typhoon Morakot struck their isolated mountain village of Shiao Lin, a police official said Monday, and a newspaper quoted a resident as saying as many as 600 were buried.
