Indonesia is nearly ready to execute by firing squad nine foreigners condemned for drug smuggling as diplomatic squabbles persist over the executions.
Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said Tuesday the preparations at the execution site are complete. Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran and two other foreigner convicts will be transferred to Nusakambangan prison this week. Five other foreigners and an Indonesian are already in the prison where all 10 will be executed simultaneously in pairs.
He gave no date for the executions. Bali Prosecutors Chief Momock Sumiarso said Chan and Sukumaran would be transferred Wednesday from their jail in Bali to the prison island off Indonesia's main island of Java.
The inmates are from Australia, Brazil, France, Ghana, Nigeria and the Philippines. Indonesia has refused diplomatic appeals to spare them.
