Pakistani officials say unknown gunmen have killed six civilians in the country's southwest. Elsewhere attackers killed a police officer in a southern city in order to free two alleged killers he was escorting.

Local administrator Mohammad Younus of the Panjgur district in southwestern Baluchistan province says gunmen killed six people from the same family Friday in an isolated house. Younus says the victims include a father, his two sons and two other relatives.

Mushtaq Maher, police chief of southern city of Karachi, says four gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on a car in which police officers were escorting two men accused of killing a policeman back from a court hearing. The attackers killed one officer and critically wounded another.
