Iran's state-run news agency is reporting that authorities have detained an Iranian-British citizen, alleging the person had links to the British intelligence service.

Tuesday's report on the IRNA news agency quoted Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi as saying the suspect had "been active in the economic field, related to Iran."

Dolatabadi didn't elaborate, saying only that the arrest took place last week. Two other semi-officials news agencies also reported the same comments.

The British Embassy in the United Arab Emirates could not be reached for comment.

Since Iran's nuclear deal with world powers last year, Iranian authorities have detained a number of dual nationals visiting the country, accusing them of a variety of security-related charges. Iran does not recognize dual nationalities, meaning those detained cannot receive consular assistance.
