Romania's government has declared a day of mourning for the funeral of Anne of Romania, the wife of deposed King Michael.

The government said Wednesday flags will be lowered and newsreaders will wear somber clothes on Aug. 13. Anne died Monday in Switzerland aged 92, and will be buried at the Curtea de Arges cemetery in central Romania.

It will be the biggest royal funeral since the death in 1938 of Queen Marie.

Anne's body arrives in Romania on Tuesday and will lie in state in Peles Castle and in the Royal Palace in Bucharest.

Michael, 94, who has cancer, is not expected to attend. He was forced to abdicate by the communists in 1947, before the couple's marriage. Anne first visited Romania in 1992 when she was almost 70.
