The Russian prime minister has accepted the resignation of the head of the customs agency, several days after investigators searched his home and founds hundreds of thousand dollars stashed in shoe boxes.
The Russian government's website on Thursday published a decree signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev saying that Andrei Belyaninov was dismissed after he handed in his notice.
Investigators earlier this week searched Belyaninov's house as part of a probe into alcohol smuggling. Footage filmed inside his lavish home showed him take out from a cupboard shoe boxes full of cash. Russian television quoted an unnamed source close to Belyaninov as saying that was his family's savings.
