Thai police detain British writer's wife over royal photos

Police are questioning the Thai wife of a British journalist, apparently in connection with his social media post containing embarrassing photographs purported to be of Thailand's crown prince. Police say the photos were doctored.

Andrew McGregor Marshall said in a statement that his wife was visiting Bangkok with their 3-year-old son when she was picked up Friday by police from her home and taken to a police station. Armed with a search warrant, police also took several items from the house. Police refused to say why she was detained or questioned.

Marshall, who used to be based in Bangkok, is a frequent critic of the Thai monarchy and the military government. Criticism of the monarchy is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
