Pakistan's prime minister has pledged an "era of development" in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir after his party won 31 of 41 seats in the local legislative assembly.
Nawaz Sharif on Friday urged a crowd of supporters in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-held Kashmir, not to forget the sacrifices of people living in the Indian-controlled side.
Local elections were held peacefully Thursday, after a "black day" was observed to protest the killing of dozens of civilians during protests in Indian-held Kashmir. The largest street protests in years erupted after Indian troops on July 8 killed Burhan Wani, the popular 22-year-old leader of Kashmir's largest rebel group.
The rebels want Indian-held Kashmir to merge with Pakistan or become independent.
India and Pakistan hold competing territorial claims over Kashmir, which periodically erupts into violence.
