A lawyer says that a Turkish court has given multiple life sentences to three foreign Islamic State militants after finding them guilty of murder.

The men were arrested in 2014 after killing a soldier, a policeman and a truck driver in an armed attack in Nigde, central Turkey.

Ali Cil, the lawyer of the civilian victim, said they were also found guilty of wanting to overthrow the government by force.

The men were identified as Cendrim Ramadami, a Swiss citizen; Benyamin Xu, a German; and Muhammed Zakiri, a Macedonian.

Ramadani received five life sentences, Xu four, and Zakiri one.

The indictment said they trained at an Islamic State camp in Syria and planned an attack in Istanbul.
