The Israeli military has demolished the home of a Palestinian who stabbed a Jewish mother to death in front of her children.

The military says its forces entered the West Bank village of Yatta early Saturday to knock down the residence of Morad Bader Abdullah Adais. In January, he murdered Dafna Meir, a mother of six, in her home in the Jewish settlement of Otniel. He fled the scene and was later arrested.

Israel says it carries out housing demolitions to deter future attacks. The Palestinians consider it a form of collective punishment.

The killing of Meir was one of the most grisly in an eight-month wave of violence. On Wednesday, two Palestinians opened fire at a popular Tel Aviv food market, killing four Israelis.
