Peru's Supreme Court has cleared the way for the extradition to the U.S. of the country's former soccer boss for his alleged involvement in multibillion-dollar FIFA bribery scandal involving marketing and broadcasting rights.

Manuel Burga has been in jail since December as part of the continuing investigation.

Thursday's decision by the high court leaves the decision on whether to extradite Burga up to Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, who has yet to comment.

While several other soccer officials have been sent to the U.S. from Switzerland to face charges so far none have been extradited from their home country.

Burga oversaw Peru's soccer federation for more than a decade until 2014. He has denied any wrongdoing.
