Sri Lanka's government says that six people have been killed and two others are reported missing as flash floods and landslides struck several parts of the island nation over the past two days.

The Disaster Management Center said in its report Monday night that at least 31,000 people have been evacuated to safe locations as heavy rains continue.

The deaths were attributed to landslides and electrocution.

The center says the military and police have been deployed for rescue efforts. The Meteorological Department has warned of rough seas and heavy winds.
