Police say they are investigating a rare slaying in Dubai Marina, where a man was shot seven times in the head.

The shooting, which authorities say happened May 4, apparently targeted the man as he sat in a car in the neighborhood of luxury high-rise buildings and beachfront property.

Dubai's police chief, Maj. Gen. Khamis Mattar al-Mazeina, discussed the attack with members of the Federal National Council during a meeting Tuesday. However, the shooting was not widely publicized until a video of his comments circulated later online.

The National, a state-owned newspaper, says the shooters may have fled to Canada.

An official with the Canadian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, declined to immediately comment when called by The Associated Press.
