A court in southern Italy has granted a request to extradite an Algerian man wanted by Belgian authorities for alleged involvement in a network that provided false IDs to suspects in the Paris and Brussels attacks.

Djamal Eddine Ouali, who authorities have said arrived in Italy in December, was arrested on a Belgian warrant Saturday near the southern port city of Salerno. Belgium issued a warrant for Ouali in January, three months after a raid in the Brussels suburb of Saint-Gilles yielded some thousand digital images used for false documents.

Ouali's presence in Italy was flagged to authorities when applied for a residency permit earlier last month.

Ouali's lawyer, Gerardo Cembalo, told the news agency ANSA that he will appeal the decision to Italy's highest court.
