ANKARA, Turkey – Two pro-government newspapers say they were attacked overnight with firebombs and gunfire. No one was hurt.
The Yeni Safak newspaper said Thursday its headquarters in Istanbul were attacked by four masked men. The daily Yeni Akit newspaper also said it was targeted in an apparently simultaneous attack. Both attacks caused small fires which were quickly extinguished.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks. Both newspapers strongly support President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the ruling party, which he founded.
The newspapers said police cordoned off the perimeters of the two offices and an investigation was underway.
