Two months after a deadly terrorist attack killed 130 people in Paris, a California eatery is honoring one of the victims.
California Pizza Kitchen is donating part of its proceeds on Monday and Tuesday to a student fund in honor of Nohemi Gonzalez, who was gunned down by a terrorist during a visit to Paris. About 20 percent of the eatery’s proceeds in 19 locations in Southern California on those two days will go toward California State University’s design school, where Gonzalez was a student.
Gonzalez studied industrial design at college’s Long Beach campus when she struck down outside of a retaurant. She was the only American killed in the Paris attacks in November 2015. The Islamic extremist group known as ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
The money raised will subsidize new and upgraded equipment for design students, according to Martin Herman, the campus’ design department chairman.
Diners who wish to have a portion of their bills donated must present a flier to their server.
"Our goal is to fundraise enough to name one of the student shops after her, since it is where she devoted most of her time, improving, creating, connecting, and inspiring,” Gonzalez’s boyfriend, Tim Mraz, said in a statement. “With your help she can continue to make this positive impact on the department and its students. Improving the department was always something she talked about with me and it would mean a lot to make one of her dreams a reality.”
