Elderly man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman shot dead in UK nursing home

LONDON – Police have arrested an elderly man on suspicion of murder after a fellow resident at a nursing home was shot dead.

Authorities said the shooting Monday morning was at the Delamer House care home in Walton-on-the-Naze, 90 miles (145 kilometers) northeast of London.

Police did not immediately release the ages of the suspect and the victim, but the Press Association news agency said she was believed to be in her 80s.

Police say forensic searches are underway and no other suspects are being sought. The victim and the suspect are believed by police to have known each other.

The home was closed off by police and the staff is refusing to comment.
