Burundi's fighting sides to meet in Uganda

Uganda's defense minister says that Burundi's fighting sides are to meet on December 28 in Uganda to discuss the country's deadly political unrest.

Crispus Kiyonga, who is also the facilitator of the peace talks mediated by the East African Community, said Saturday that 14 groups including Burundi's ruling party, civil society organizations and opposition parties would attend the talks aimed at ending the violent political unrest.

He said the dialogue on the Burundi crisis will resume under the facilitation of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

The East African Community appointed Museveni the mediator of Burundi talks on July 6 and he went to Bujumbura on July 14 and 15 to meet with various parties but the security situation has since been deteriorating.
