JERUSALEM – The Israeli military says a Palestinian fired at an Israeli soldier before being shot dead by forces north of Jerusalem.
The military says the attacker got out of his car and fired at Israelis near the village of Hizme. It says one soldier and a civilian were wounded in the attack Thursday.
Since mid-September, Palestinians have killed 19 Israelis in stabbings, shootings and vehicular attacks. At least 101 Palestinians have been killed, including 66 said by Israel to be attackers.
Israel blames the violence on incitement by Palestinian leaders and on social media sites. Palestinians say the attacks stem from a lack of hope for gaining independence after years of failed peace efforts.
