Police say an Italian priest has been attacked in a northern Bangladesh town and hospitalized with head and neck injuries, the third such recent attack in the country.
Police officer Abul Hasan said the attack Wednesday happened as the priest was riding a bicycle to his church in Dinajpur, a town 415 kilometers (260 miles) north of the capital, Dhaka.
Other details were not immediately known, and no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
He is the third foreigner to be attacked in Bangladesh since September. An Italian aid worker and a Japanese agricultural worker were killed earlier.
Bangladesh has been rocked by a series of attacks this year claimed by Islamic extremists, including on bloggers seen as anti-Islamic.
