A Palestinian official says dozens of Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Israeli soldiers on the anniversary of the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Health ministry spokesman Mohammed Awawdeh says 25 Palestinians were hit by "live fire" on Wednesday. Israel's military says Palestinians rolled burning tires and threw rocks at troops stationed nearby, who used tear gas and fired low caliber bullets at "main instigators."
In Jerusalem, meanwhile, an 14-year-old Palestinian had his remand extended for involvement in stabbing a man on a train the day before.
Since mid-September, 12 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks, mostly stabbings. Seventy-seven Palestinians have been killed, including 50 who Israel said were involved in attacks.
Arafat fell ill in 2004 and was flown to France, where he died in a hospital.
