Scotland Yard is sharply cutting the number of officers looking into the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann to four.
At one point, 29 officers were involved as police tried to locate the child, who disappeared while she was on vacation with her parents in Portugal aged 3.
Police said Wednesday the long-running investigation has not yet reached a conclusion and that the investigation remains active.
Her parents said they understand the police decision.
In a statement they said: "While we do not know what happened to Madeleine, we remain hopeful that she may still be found given the ongoing lines of inquiry."
The McCanns said police have made significant progress in the case.
British police have worked with Portuguese police in the search.
