A rail strike in the Belgian capital has paralyzed much of the train traffic on domestic and international lines linking London, Paris and Amsterdam to Brussels.

The socialist union on Friday protested reforms of the public rail company which it says it will affect service for commuters and cut into income and social security of personnel.

A partial rail strike in the centralized Belgian system can be felt throughout the country and beyond. Most trains on the Thalys line to Paris were canceled and the Eurostar lines from London were running a reduced schedule up to the Belgian border.
