Slovakian President Andrej Kiska has undergone a surgery at a clinic in the neighboring Czech Republic.
The presidential office in Bratislava says Thursday's endoscopic operation at the clinic in the western Czech city of Plzen deals with an unspecified painful problem at a hip joint. It was recommended after a conservative treatment failed. It says in a statement Kiska should remain hospitalized for three days.
The 52-year-old businessman-turned-philanthropist was elected to the largely ceremonial post last year after he defeated his major rival, left-leaning Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Unlike the prime minister, Kiska has been a vocal critic of Russian actions in Ukraine.
