Spanish lawmakers have overwhelmingly approved the government's support for the 86 billion euro ($93 billion) bailout package for Greece.

Members of the nation's lower house of parliament voted 297-20 in support of the third Greek bailout already backed by the administration of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

Tuesday's vote was largely symbolic because Rajoy's Popular Party holds an absolute majority in Parliament.

Spain will supply 10.1 billion euros to the Greek bailout. Its officials have been hawkish in demanding that Greece abide by strict terms such as budget cuts and reforms.

Spain asked for and received a bailout of its hurting banks in 2012.
