The mayor of a Hungarian village at the end of a fence being built on the Serbian border says the barrier is a government effort to win back voters from the far-right Jobbik party and migrants will just try to circumvent it.
Robert Molnar, a former lawmaker, says that while migration is a serious problem for Europe, migrants should be treated with leniency.
He said migrants who don't want to cut through the fence will likely try to get around it near his village on the border between Hungary, Serbia and Romania.
Hungary plans to complete the construction of the four meter (13 feet) high fence by the end of August.
Over 110,000 migrants have filed for asylum in Hungary this year, compared to less than 43,000 in 2014.
