MEXICO CITY – Leaders of Honduras' four opposition parties say they support the creation of an international commission to help the country's judicial system root out corruption.
Former President Manuel Zelaya, who leads the main opposition party, said Thursday that international assistance is needed to help the exhausted Honduran justice system.
The opposition says Honduras should follow the lead of neighboring Guatemala where a United Nations commission has driven a number of corruption arrests, including that of the president's son-in-law on Thursday.
Weekly protests have grown in Honduras since late May aimed at pressuring President Juan Orlando Hernandez to invite United Nations involvement. A wide-ranging scandal in the public health system has brought tens of thousands into the streets in protest.
